An Efficient Localization and Avoidance Method of Jammers in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

Jamming is a terrifying attack that could harm 802.11p-based vehicular communications by occupying the communication channels overwhelming network with jamming packets, especially for self-driving cars, as it essential to send/receive messages without any interruptions control vehicles remotely. In wireless ad hoc networks (VANET), attacker’s mission more accessible due network’s open nature, way of communication, and lack security measures. Most existing studies have focused on detection approaches. However, few them addressed jammer localization challenge. Moreover, even in these limited studies, solutions’ assumptions, proposed countermeasures, their complexity were also missing. Therefore, this paper introduces new approach detecting, localizing, avoiding attacks VANETs high efficiency terms accuracy, implementation complexity. The uses signal strength estimating only distance between receiver, while then less complex algorithm localizing redirecting away from roads attacker using. This was simulated using real-life maps specialized environments. Additionally, performance evaluated different metrics. These evaluation metrics include (1) estimated position jammer, (2) handling announcing its location normal (3) avoidance jammed routes increasing weight, which forces cars reroute evade area. measured Euclidean distance, successful highly increased packet delivery ratio (PDR) signal-to-interference-plus-noise (SINR). noticed significantly before after area when example, PDR 0% 100% bypassing jammer’s routes.
